Where people, culture, and food collide.
One Vita Coco comment on a Billie Eilish TikTok drew nearly 400,000 likes.
Comments used to be where people reacted to content. Now they’re the content.
Dude Wipes’ CMO says people scroll straight to the replies looking for something entertaining. Organic reach keeps shrinking, so brands are going where attention already sits.
Reddit threads and Facebook groups work the same way. Shoppers trade recommendations there with or without you.
So how do you show up in a way that makes an impact?
Show up where the conversation already lives

Don’t wait for people to find your feed. Add something to the threads your customer is already reading. TikTok and Instagram comments. Subreddits. Facebook groups.
Commenting is free, and small teams can reply in minutes.
The brand move: Pick two or three spaces where your customer already talks. Join as a member, not a marketer. Bring a joke, a recipe or a real answer. Never a pitch.
Who nailed it: Vita Coco (again). It commented on creator Romeo’s viral Dr. Pepper jingle pitch, then paid them for a jingle of its own. Vita Coco reported more than 250 million impressions and 210,000 new TikTok followers. Google searches hit a four-year high.
Make your own comments the content

Your comment section is a product lab and a content calendar.
Who nailed it: Good Girl Snacks, the team behind Hot Girl Pickles. They showed a behind the scenes video of a product with no label, and asked followers to guess the flavor in the comments. A right guess won a PR box. Thousands of comments came in, and they used them as inspiration for what to make next.
The brand move: Ask a question worth answering. Reply with a video, a recipe or a straight answer. Turn the best comments into your next post, flavor or limited drop.
Read the room: match the tone and voice

This is where challenger brands win. A legacy brand has one voice for everyone. You can sound like the room you’re standing in.
-
Read 20 threads before you post. Match the pace and humor. Skip the borrowed slang. Forced slang reads as cringe fast.
-
Join spaces that match your values. If your brand wouldn’t say it out loud, don’t say it there.
-
Know when to stay quiet. Brands get “silence, brand” replies for a reason. If a move starts to feel predictable, switch it up.
-
Sound like yourself. It only works if you’re in on the joke. Stand out as a brand while staying part of the moment.
The through-line
Your customers are already talking, and joining is free.
The brands that win show up like they belong in the room, in a voice that fits it.
